How would you engage and include parents, caregivers, community members and students in decision-making in your district around things like curriculum, budgeting and district policy?
I will hold meet and greets along with coffee hours. I am well known to the community and am easily reached by cell phone or email. Because of my active involvement in the community I am not a hard to reach person and many people know how to easily reach me with their concerns.
What are your thoughts on school discipline and the way it is exercised in your school district? What are your thoughts on restorative practices?
I believe that the disciplines put in place now are effective although in school detentions should be brought back.
What are your thoughts on how to improve student mental health
TSD must invest in the hiring and attracting of counselors and bring incentives like workshops and higher education opportunities to best serve our students mental health needs. There must be rigorous training for new hires and an attractive contract to maintain and retain our staff
What are your thoughts on ways to improve Black student achievement in your district and in Michigan schools overall?
TSD must focus on hiring more diverse educators and administrators. It's important for our students to see themselves in higher positions in our district.
What are your thoughts on how to ensure that all students and their families, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc., feel safe and included in your district?
Programs and activities must be geared towards inclusivity. There must be respect throughout our district and that must start from the very top. We should celebrate all holidays and months dedicated to all communities.
What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?
This should be a priority for sure.
