Our district uses restorative discipline practices. When used correctly restorative practices are effective.
What are your thoughts on how to improve student mental health
I would like to see more access to support and mental health services for students and staff.
What are your thoughts on ways to improve Black student achievement in your district and in Michigan schools overall?
I believe all students can achieve at grade level. A strong reading/literacy program is essential. For those students needing extra support, teachers must provide interventions. Some examples could be: flexible groupings, before and after school programs, Saturday school and one on one tutoring.

All students and their families, regardless of race, gender, identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc. are afforded the same equal opportunities.
What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?
Hiring incentives could be offered. Such as: tuition reimbursement, help with housing, set or merit pay, paraprofessional help in classrooms, etc.
