How would you engage and include parents, caregivers, community members and students in decision-making in your district around things like curriculum, budgeting and district policy?

I welcome anyone in the community’s input. I encourage everyone to attend our Board meetings and/or contact me with any questions.

What are your thoughts on school discipline and the way it is exercised in your school district? What are your thoughts on restorative practices?

We currently use restorative practices in Armada which has served us well.

What are your thoughts on how to improve student mental health

Armada has recently added several new counselors and social workers and a district nurse to our schools. I will fight to keep this personelle as well as encourage more mental health training for our teachers and school administrators.

What are your thoughts on ways to improve Black student achievement in your district and in Michigan schools overall?

No child should ever be left behind on education. Every child,no matter their race, should be given equal opportunity to learn in a safe environment.

What are your thoughts on how to ensure that all students and their families, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc., feel safe and included in your district?

Every family has a stake in our children’s education. Any parent or community member can attend our Board Meetings and have their voice heard. I welcome input from the community. We have made a lot of safety improvements to our schools with this last bond we passed. I will continue to push for the safety of our students and staff.

What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?

State wide Michigan is looking at a possible teacher shortage. So far as a board we have a great working relationship with our teachers and have welcomed their input. Staff satisfaction surveys, wellness days and activities, and providing new teachers with an more senior “buddy”are all incorporated to make our teachers feel valued.
