Gulledge, Richard - Lakeville School District

Brief Intro of Candidate
I am a father of 6 sons and 10 grandchildren. My wife and I have lived in Genesee county since 2002. In regards to employment, I am a Director of Rental and Renewed for a Raymond forklift company.
My experience, when working with the youth of Genesee county, started back in 2003 and continued up until 2023. In working with the youth, I helped organize youth events (basketball tournaments, all-nighter events and youth camps) and would also run a bus route into Davison and Flint, to help underprivileged teens. Whether it was bringing them to an event or taking them food or other essentials.
In my beliefs, I believe that all students/teens should be treated equally and that CRT has no place in a school district. As that tends to cause some people to feel less than. I believe in a hands-on approach when helping others. It is one thing to talk about the needs of the community but a whole other level, when getting out and being a hand-up. I believe in a solid education and believe that I can help in that decision process, if elected.

How would you engage and include parents, caregivers, community members and students in decision-making in your district around things like curriculum, budgeting and district policy?
I believe that the people closest to the students, should be allowed an option to be involved with the necessary components of education. They need to have plenty of time to be able to attend up-coming board meetings. Ex. Announcing the board meetings on the school site or on the school's social media page, at least 30 days prior. I think if the community shares their email addresses, they should also be receiving updates on budgets and/or meetings.
For students, there could be a social platform to get involved and letting their voice be heard. Or announcing up-coming board meetings. Ex. using RenWeb or something similar.
