How would you engage and include parents, caregivers, community members and students in decision-making in your district around things like curriculum, budgeting and district policy?

We currently have a total lack of communication with our residents, so that would be one of my goals, to try and engage our community and stress evolvement by reinstating our committees so there would be public meetings. Such as our policy comm., finance comm., and curriculum comm. I would also like to see our web site become more user friendly and a place where questions could be asked, making sure questions would also be answered.

What are your thoughts on school discipline and the way it is exercised in your school district? What are your thoughts on restorative practices?

In my opinion, currently I don't believe students are being held accountable for their actions. I think student funding gets in the way of discipline. We currently have good restorative practices in place.

What are your thoughts on how to improve student mental health

Most importantly they need to feel safe and at this point I don't believe we have accomplished this. We do have mental health programs in place that seem to be helping.

What are your thoughts on ways to improve Black student achievement in your district and in Michigan schools overall?

Until I begin my work on the Board and see what is currently in place I don't have a answer.

What are your thoughts on how to ensure that all students and their families, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc., feel safe and included in your district?

I believe they all currently feel included, there are some safety protocol's currently in place. My concern is the issues at the middle and high school.

What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?

The pay has been increased in small amounts, however Taylor is below average in pay for all bargaining units. As far as support staff, the amount of employees have been reduced therefore adding additional work for all others with no additional pay.
