Brief Intro of Candidate
I am a Single parent. Mother of one son and a grandmother of two grandsons, and one granddaughter. I have lived in Jackson all my life, and I am a graduate of Jackson high school. I am involved a lot in the community and have wanted to be on the Jackson public school board for a long time, but it wasn’t feasible for me when my son was in school. Now that I have grandchildren in the public school system, I feel it’s my time to help where it is needed, strengthen where it is weak and help in advocating in places where there is a need.

By getting the word out more. Making people feel comfortable to voice what their needs are and that their opinion matters. It is important to be involved because it’s our kids future that’s at stake
What are your thoughts on school discipline and the way it is exercised in your school district? What are your thoughts on restorative practices?

Making it known to The students of the different resources that are out there for them. If you don’t make it available for them, they will not know. There is great opportunities out there, but we have to make it available to the students
What are your thoughts on how to ensure that all students and their families, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc., feel safe and included in your district?
Schools have to work on diversity, equity and inclusion. I know that there is a big push for this and it takes everyone to be on board. It comes from the higher up like the school board to make it known that this is a priority and then a push from the teachers, social workers and administrators that making all kids feel comfortable and there is a safe haven within their school. No matter what that we don’t make them feel that they’re singled out
What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?
Good benefit package, sign on bonuses. Pay off student loans after staying in the school system for a required time
