How would you engage and include parents, caregivers, community members and students in decision-making in your district around things like curriculum, budgeting and district policy?
I encourage parent and community involvement in budgetary decisions to reflect shared priorities. I advocate for increased robust training opportunities for the community to understand how schools are funded by state, federal and philonthropic organizations. I also advocate for every school to have a fully functioning PTA/PTSA
and School Advisory Council that is maintained to improve communications and decision making. I also advocate for board members to actively visit and engage parent/community groups at their designated schools.

What are your thoughts on how to improve student mental health
I would like to see a policy that mandates mental health wellness days for staff and students. In addition better coordinated services for family counseling that offers continuous follow-up with school social workers to help monitor and keep students on track.
What are your thoughts on ways to improve Black student achievement in your district and in Michigan schools overall?
Increased black representation in the curriculum and books, improving elective classes and creating employment opportunities (internships and co-op jobs. Providing learning supports for every student to increase achievement.
What are your thoughts on how to ensure that all students and their families, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc., feel safe and included in your district?
Expand and/or create initiatives to address every group
What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?
Teachers have been committed to educating students under unfair working conditions and pay. Teachers want to be treated with respect from students, parents, and both district and school administrators. Teacher input should be considered in the curriculum decision making and given the flexibility to create individual lesson plans on how the content is taught.
