Im kevin brown im 33 years old i graduated from kearsley highschool in 2010 i am a machine operator in a factory and have worked there for 13 years i am married with 2 children

How would you engage and include parents, caregivers, community members and students in decision-making in your district around things like curriculum, budgeting and district policy?

I would discuss with parents and guardians what kind of things are important to them for their children to know and would try to keep the budget as fair and balanced as possible to make sure no one is left out when making those decisions.

What are your thoughts on school discipline and the way it is exercised in your school district? What are your thoughts on restorative practices?

I think that there was a tougher stance on bullying allot of kids these days struggle with mental health and I think it's very important to let the kids know that we're here for them and that we're listening.

What are your thoughts on how to improve student mental health

I think that the children should get to earn a day in class to unwind by playing games or watching a movie or maybe just going outside as a class and doing something together.

What are your thoughts on ways to improve Black student achievement in your district and in Michigan schools overall?

I would say that encouragement would go a long way positive reenforcement is a great way to let the kids know that someone believes in them because they might not all get that at home.

What are your thoughts on how to ensure that all students and their families, regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, disability, religion, income status, etc., feel safe and included in your district?

I would say to try to make a warm and welcome environment for all and to make sure no student is treated differently because of those things.

What are your thoughts on how to recruit and retain staff, particularly staff of color, in your district with regard to pay, benefits, and working conditions?
